Earth Upon Earth
From the Forest comes the Forest
Woodland Abstraction - mixed media
I am a practising interdisciplinary artist with a practice which includes drawing, painting , sculpture and textile work. I am also an art tutor running a range of different courses. I coordinate collaborative projects with other artists and lead participatory community projects.
I live and work within Charnwood Forest area of Leicestershire and my most recent work responds directly to this place and its people – to the human experience which is entwined with the ‘matter’ of the landscape – its buildings, its trees, its soil, its ancient rocks. Landscapes are ‘embedded’ with memory and the many places of remembrance within the area often feature in my work. Fieldwork has become an integral part of my practice - foraging, collecting fragments of natural and man made materials which might act as metaphors for memory and signposts for the cycle of nature. Matter of the land becomes embedded within my paintings connecting the viewer to the earth. Assemblages and paper works become depositories for reflection on our place within the natural order and for human memories and stories.
