Artist Jacqui Gallon would love to share with you her enthusiasm for a form of painting known as  “matter painting” which emerged in the 1940s/50s. The term refers to the technique of using thick impasto paint into which other materials such as sand, soil, mud, cement and shells have been added. One of her biggest influences – the Catalan artist Antoni Tàpies – spoke of “letting materials speak for themselves through themselves”. Jacqui's own work responds to a love of materials, an appreciation of process, and at the same time alludes to the beauty of decay.

The Chapter House of St Mary's Church provides a delightful and restful environment for this very creative and exploratory day. As with all Jacqui's workshops, the underlying philosophy is about painting expressively and she will be teaching how to create texture using natural materials. By incorporating these within either oil or acrylic paints, you will be able to explore the effects which these can impart to your paintings, whether your interest is in abstract or landscape painting.

Suitable for all, from experienced artists wanting to play with and discuss new techniques to complete beginners. To book please contact Jacqui Gallon on the contacts below
