This important exhibition of Leicester born artist Mary Annie Sloane ARE (1867-1961) explores the life and work of a significant Leicester artist.

Born into a comfortable middle class life, Mary chose to pursue an artistic path at a time when training opportunities for women were limited. Her energies were directed into her art, campaigns for women’s’ suffrage, travel and a close friendship with May Morris, daughter of William Morris, father of the Arts & Crafts movement.

Mary Sloane was an early contributor to exhibitions held by Leicester Society of Artists

Bringing together many previously unseen artworks from private family collections, the exhibition covers both her early Leicester period and later life in London.
